SITE: Depot at Industrial Estate, Swansea
TYPE OF DEVELOPMENT: Local Government
THE CONCEPT:
The works consisted of the cleaning and coating of asbestos cement roofing sheets using our specialised shrouded water jetting equipment (which eliminates over spray that could contain any potential asbestos fibre release) and our water filtration unit. Filtration started at 300 micron, then pumped to 100 micron, down to 50 micron and finally to 5 micron. The clean filtered water was recycled to the high pressure pump, though in some cases filtered water is pumped to the foul waste system. The contaminated filter socks were removed from the filtration system and double bagged into red, then clear labelled asbestos waste sacks. These were removed from site by a licensed waster carrier to an approved asbestos waste disposal location. The roof was coated to the Garland UK Ltd, White Knight 20 year specification.
RCS Ltd did a rolling programme over four years, 2012 to 2015, where a total of five asbestos cement roofs were cleaned and coated by ourselves. The photographs show Phase 3/Roof 4.
